As of May 27, 2016 Transport Canada no longer requires Candidate Document Number (CDN) for candidates for SVOP, MED A3, Marine Basic First Aid.

SVOP - Time is up,

As of November 7th, 2009, TransportCanada will now require that all Small Non-pleasure (Commercial) Vessel Operators have the Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP) Training Certificate to transport passengers.

This SVOP Training Certificate will also be required of Non-Passenger Carrying Vessel Operators by Nov 7th, 2010.

This is a very basic course that normally does not provide operators with the necessary skills to navigate in the fog (restricted visibility) with radar or at higher speeds that exceed 10-12 knots (Not even the 60 ton  Limited Master’s Course includes this training). Small passenger and tour operators that have not provided their boat drivers with some electronic navigation training are in a high risk category.
